ORANGE COUNTY SPEEDWAY RACES BACK INTO THE NASCAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES FOR 2000

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 3, 2000) - Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C., will rejoin the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series for 2000, the nation's premier short track racing series.

Orange County was most recently a member of NASCAR in 1993 before a management change led the facility in a different direction. In 1997, the Lamm family took the reigns over at Orange County and began to re-structure the facility. The .375-mile oval will feature Late Model Stock Cars as their NASCAR Weekly Racing Series feature division, with Limited Sportsman as the Exide ShorTrack Series by NASCAR division and the Grand Stocks racing in the ACCEL Series each Saturday night.
"We are enthusiastic about Orange County Raceway rejoining our program," stated Tom Deery, NASCAR vice president Weekly Racing Series. "Orange County plants the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series into the Raleigh-Durham market which offers an excellent fan base. The facility has undergone several changes over the past few years and we are thrilled about their return to the premier short track series in the nation."
Larry Barbare and Charlie Lamm, Orange County Speedway co-promoters began to rebuild the program at the .375-mile speedway several years ago and it has grown into one of the premier facilities in the Southeast.
"NASCAR has always remained greatly important to Orange County and our program," stated Larry Barbare. "The move to rejoin NASCAR this season couldn't come at a better time. We think that we have built an excellent program at Orange County. We feel that we offer one of the best programs in the nation and we can't wait until it shines in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series."
The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series is the premier short track racing series in the nation. Thousands of short track racers compete every weekend from May to September, at nearly 100 selected short tracks, both dirt and asphalt, throughout the country. Those short tracks are divided into 10 geographic regions, with the Series providing competitors with local, regional, and national recognition and a $1.423 million point fund.
