A Note Of Thanks
On a personal note,
For the efforts and professionalism of our Fire & Safety Rescue team Saturday night in the way they handled the entire incident, both with the driver and those fans injured by the wreck, I cannot thank them enough.

Also, I have to thank all of the track officials, who acted calmly and quickly in a chaotic and crisis situation, for their assistance to the medical staff and fans.

Most of all, though, I want to let everyone in attendance know, especially those in the Turn 1 area, how absolutely magnificent you all were during this. Nobody panicked, people helped staff quickly identify those injured, and everyone worked wonderfully in helping additional medical teams and personnel get to the scene. Strangers became family in an instant. Racing can bring out the worst, but more often the best, in everyone.

Florida Speed Park may not have the most fans in this sport, but after Saturday night, it is obvious that we have the very best.

Shaun Farr, who will turn 18 on July 25th, remains in critical but stable condition at Shands Jacksonville Hospital, suffering from a closed head injury. I will keep you updated on his condition as it progresses.

I've never been so proud to be at the helm of this speedway as I feel today. I wish the circumstances were different, and I am very thankful that the injuries to the spectators were mostly minor, considering what could have happened had the catch fence not have acted in the manner it was designed. I'm proud to be a part of this family. I pray for a full recovery for Farr, so that he may visit this family again soon.

Thank you everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all at the races.
Louis Smith
