FLORIDA SPEED PARK
OPENS THE 2000 SEASON

The new season with a new name and a new sanction will begin this Saturday, March 11, at Florida Speed Park. The new sanction is the American Racing Association, which is a weekly racing series and a touring late model stock series. Weekly series will complete for a track championship as well as a national championship. The points will be on Competitive Points Index (CPI) similar to what was used in the TOP GUN Challenge last year at FSP.

The evening will kick off as the Sportsman Division will be back with Kenny Hall, '98 and '99 Track Champion trying to make it a threepeat. Challenging Hall again this year will be Todd "Secret Agentman" Ponce, Nick Pilinko, and Jason Garver, who will be in a new car.

Late Models will be back as Larry Osteen will defend his 1999 Track Championship. If Speed fest 2000 was any judge Osteen will have a lot of challengers this year. Look for young guns such as 19 year old Scott Lagasse, Jr., Donnie Oden , and Dustin Chamber to challenge the "Old Man" Osteen for the trophy.

Rumor has it that George Thrift, III will not be back to defend his 1999 championship so that leaves the door wide open for a new track champion. Will it be a St. Augustine driver like David Hollingworth or a Jacksonville driver such as Robert Deal or Chuck Cumby or will a new name be dominate the open wheels this year?

In the Thunder Truck division look for former sportsman driver, Les "Senior Chief" Burl make a challenge to the championship this year. Truck regulars, Alan Moore, Ron Thomas, Wade Lynn and the Coopers Ricky and Jared will be back .

Ever popular minstocks will once again make their appearance at Florida Speed Park. During Speedfest 2000 Jay Farris started out like last year by willing the first race of the year. Can he continue the winning ways or will Matt Hartley, John Hopke and the rest of the mini drivers be able to beat him only time will tell?

Hobbystocks will once again have the crowd on their feet as Scooter Hick, Jody Stratton and the three car team of Rodney Norman, Seth Clay and Brad Heck battle each week for the bragin rights. Don't forget Chris Manucy with a new paint scheme this year, I'm sure Chris will be around the front again this year.
